Building Change-Ready Leaders: Six hours condensed into Two

Kestrel Coal Resources engaged Outlier for a small but high-impact piece of work: help strengthen leadership capability around change. The focus was on the organisation’s capability team, who were already investing in their people and wanted to bring a more people-focused approach to change into the business.

The challenge

This wasn’t about rolling out a huge transformation program. It was about something just as important: helping leaders build the mindset and tools to lead change well in their day jobs. The challenge was to create something practical, engaging and relevant to the reality of their environment – without asking busy leaders to sit through a long, theory-heavy workshop.

At the same time, the session needed to work virtually and connect leaders from across Queensland, while still feeling interactive, energising and grounded in real work.

The Outlier approach

We didn’t start from a generic leadership deck. We started with what would actually land. Outlier took the core of our Change-Driven Leader Masterclass and shaped it into something fit for the moment: shorter, sharper and more usable for this audience.

The result was a session built around the environment modern organisations operate in, how leaders can approach change in a way that is adaptable and flexible, and the practical tools they can use to lead people through it.

What we delivered

A tailored leadership learning experience, including:

  • design of a people-focused Change-Driven Leader Masterclass
  • adaptation of our existing program to suit the client’s needs and context
  • condensation of a 6-hour masterclass into a 2-hour session
  • virtual delivery that still felt interactive and engaging
  • content focused on the reality leaders face when leading change in fast-moving environments
  • practical tools and takeaways leaders could apply in their day-to-day roles

We don’t.We treat it like something leaders need to understand, feel and live first – because if they can’t do that, their teams never will. By turning a long-form program into a sharp, relevant and human-centred masterclass, we helped Kestrel’s leaders build capability in a way that respected their time, matched their reality and made change leadership feel usable from day one.
